Lyrics

Sibhse tha mach a Criosd Tha suamhnach na ar Cadal Nach duisg sibh gu ar ciall S an t-siorriachd cho fada. Ma tha thu mach a Crìosd Tha thu gu Dion gun fasgadh Fasgadh do dhachaidh Mar naoidean sgaoilt sa mhachair. Ach anam thig gu Crìosd Steach bho sgiath nam beannachd An ann a gheibh thu biadh Is gheibh thu gras gu pailteas. Anam, aom do chluais Is e bualadh aig do dhorus Fosgail dha gu luath Mu’n tarraing cruaidh na glasan. S an seid or ghaodh Teath Is Grian dol sios air t-fheasgar An dubharachd na h-oidhche Cha reicear ruibh an t-ola Anam thig air chuairt Null gu aite cloiginn Is mar tuig thu de bhios ann Nach suidh thu sios ri g-amhaire/ Chi sin mo ghradh Eisd ri fuaim na h-osnaich Crun droighinn air a cheann Na tharnan th’ann a h-oisin [?] E ‘g ol cupan na feirge Le ordugh teann bho’n Athar Gu toileach airson a chlann Air crann ‘sa cheann air cromadh.

Lyrics Translated

You who are without Christ Who are sleeping in ignorance Won’t you wake up to your senses When eternity is so long.   If you are without Christ You are without protection, without shelter A shelter for your home Like a child lost on the machair. But soul come to Christ In from the shield of blessings There you will get food And you will get grace in abundance. Soul, bend your ear There is knocking at your door Open it for him quickly And without hesitation. And though the north wind may blow And with sun setting in the afternoon In the gloom of the evening The oil will not be sold to you. A soul that goes on a journey Over to a place And if you don’t understand what is there Why don’t you sit to look at it You’ll see my love Listen to the sound of the sighs Without a crown of thorns on his head Na tharnan th’ann a h-oisin [?] He’s drinking with the cup of anger With a strict order from the Father Willingly for his children On a cross with his head bowed. Trans. Frances Wilkins and Mairead MacIver (v 1,3, 4) and Gilliebride MacMillan (all other verses)
