Sheer terror overtook me Lord, When I tasted sinful death, To the jaws of hell I was surely borne, A wretch in great distress, But Thy saving grace turned me around, Back from eternal grief, I hope and pray that now I’ve found, Great strength in my beliefs Now I walk anew and hope am free, To seek the eternal life, My need My Lord is to walk with Thee, Pray guide me by Thy Light, When darkest clouds hang like a shroud, And threaten to encompass me, With Thy Presence near I should have no fear, If I but trust in Thee. Dare I but put my faith in Thee, And trust that I am found, That on the Cross, Christ died for me, And now I’m heaven bound, Oh a cowards plea this well may be, Am a sinner none the less, On bended knee I ask to be, A sinner that is blessed. My sinful self still lurks within, And chains me to my past, The paths I walk so steeped in sin, A burden I can’t cast, But in my mind I see the Cross, Where my Saviour died for me, My hope now lies when all seems lost, At the Cross of Calvary.
