Lyrics
A Mhoire mhìn-gheal,
A mhèinn nan gràsan,
Do dh’aona Mhac Dhè
Bu tu fhèin a mhàthair:
Stiùir mo cheumsa
Tro rè mo làithean
Air sligh’an dòchais
Gu sòlas Phàrrais
Dìon gach là mi
Bho chràdh is leònadh,
Lìon gu làn mi
Le gràs do thròcair;
Ciùinich m’àrdan
Gu sàmhchair òigheach,
Air sgàth a’ phàisdean
A dh’fhàs bho d’fheòil-sa.
Oigh ro chliùiteach,
Bi riumsa bàidheil;
Paisg is cu mi
Fo lùb do ghàirdein;
Las led shoillse
Gach duibhre ghràineil
Tha dubhadh m’eòlais
Air òr do ghràsan.
Tog do naoidhean
Mar lainntear iùil dhomh,
Los tron oidhche
Nach caill mi’n cùrsa;
Bi toirt làmh dhomh
An càs an stiùiridh
Gu Port mo dhòchais,
Mo chòir ’s mo dhùthchais.
Lyrics Translated
Fair gentle Mary,
rich source of grace,
You were the mother
Of God’s only-begotten Son:
Guide my footsteps
Throughout my days
On the journey of hope
To the joy of Paradise.
Protect me each day
From pain and hurt,
Fill me full of the grace
Of your mercy;
Subdue my pride
To virginal peace,
For the sake of the Child
Who grew from your flesh.
Virgin most renowned,
Be kind to me;
Enfold and keep me
In the crook of your arm
Light with your radiance
Each hateful shade
Which darkens my vision
Of your golden grace.
Let your infant Son
Be my guiding light
Lest in the night
I should lose my way;
Guide my hand in the task of steering
For the harbour of my hopes,
My right and my heritage.
